Celebrate Pumpkin Spice Day with a Cozy Fall Treat!
Hello, friends! Welcome back to Good Thyme Gal—today, we’re celebrating one of fall’s most beloved flavors: National Pumpkin Spice Day! If you’re like me, you’ve been counting down the days until it’s officially time to break out the pumpkin spice everything, and I’m happy to say that October 1st,2024, is officially Pumpkin Spice Day!
This warm, fragrant spice blend is practically synonymous with the cozy vibes of autumn, instantly transporting us to a world of crunchy leaves, crisp mornings, and comfort food. Whether it’s in your coffee, your candles, or your baking, pumpkin spice is more than just a seasonal trend—it’s a tradition. And the best part? It’s super easy to make delicious pumpkin spice treats right at home!
So, let’s talk about why we love pumpkin spice so much and how you can celebrate this day with a homemade recipe that’s perfect for fall.
Why We Love Pumpkin Spice
Pumpkin spice is the perfect combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, and allspice—a cozy, warming blend that makes everything feel a little more festive. While the pumpkin spice craze may have started with coffee (thank you, pumpkin spice latte!), it’s now a full-blown flavor phenomenon that’s found its way into everything from cookies to soups. The best part? Pumpkin spice doesn’t actually need to be paired with pumpkin to be delicious—it's all about those warm, fragrant spices.
Here are just a few reasons we can’t get enough of it:
It’s comforting- Pumpkin spice has a way of making everything feel a little cozier. It brings warmth and sweetness to everything it touches, making it perfect for fall baking and drinks.
It’s versatile- Whether you’re baking a pie, sipping a latte, or spicing up a batch of granola, pumpkin spice can be used in a variety of recipes.
It’s festive-There’s something about the aroma of pumpkin spice that instantly puts you in the fall spirit. From Halloween to Thanksgiving, it’s the ultimate seasonal scent and flavor.
How to Celebrate On National Pumpkin Spice Day
What better way to celebrate Pumpkin Spice Day than by whipping up a homemade treat? Today, I’m sharing my favorite recipe for Pumpkin Spice Muffins. These muffins are super easy to make, wonderfully moist, and packed with that pumpkin spice goodness we all love. They’re perfect for breakfast, an afternoon snack, or even dessert!
Pumpkin Spice Muffins Recipe
These muffins are the perfect balance of sweet and spicy, with just the right amount of pumpkin flavor. Plus, they make your kitchen smell amazing while they bake!
Ingredients
Makes 12 muffins
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice (or a homemade blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger)
1 cup canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
1/4 cup milk (or any milk alternative)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
*Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts, chocolate chips, or a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar for topping
Cooking Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners or lightly grease with nonstick spray.
2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and pumpkin pie spice.
3. In a separate bowl, mix together the pumpkin puree, oil, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.
4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix—the batter should be slightly lumpy.
5. If you’d like to add a little something extra (like chocolate chips or chopped nuts), fold them into the batter now. You can also sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on top of the muffins for a crunchy, sweet finish.
6. Spoon the batter evenly into the prepared muffin tin. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean.
7. Let the muffins cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Then, enjoy your perfectly spiced muffins!
More Pumpkin Spice Fun
If you’re as pumpkin spice-obsessed as I am, there are plenty of ways to incorporate this flavor into your daily life—especially during fall:
Pumpkin spice lattes: If you’re a coffee lover, make your own PSL at home by adding a sprinkle of pumpkin spice to your morning brew or mix it into steamed milk with a shot of espresso.
Pumpkin spice granola: Mix up a batch of homemade granola with oats, nuts, and a generous dose of pumpkin spice. It’s perfect for topping yogurt or enjoying as a snack.
Pumpkin spice pancakes: Add a teaspoon of pumpkin spice to your pancake batter for a cozy fall breakfast.
Pumpkin spice candles: Okay, you can’t eat this one, but lighting a pumpkin spice candle while you bake definitely sets the mood!
