Homemade Apple Pie

Sometimes the best desserts are the simplest. Homemade Apple pie.

Sure, I could give you an apple pie recipe that calls for canned apples and ready-made pie crust, but the truth is this apple cobbler tastes so much better when made from scratch and cooked with love.

I was 16 years old when this recipe was introduced into my life. In my family, it is a birth rite to learn certain recipes. This one along with my yummy peach cobbler was among them.

When cooking is simple it can allow all the wonderful flavors to meld and make something taste wonderful. :

The Pie Crust is yummy-GTG

This recipe can be modified from a pie to a cobbler, or even a crumble.

When people hear the words 'from scratch' they get a little nervous, but no worries. Give yourself patience and time. I also suggest you read the recipe twice before preparing and just have fun. That is the most important part of this recipe. Cook it with love in your heart and fun in your mind.

  • 1 Teaspoon of salt

  • 1 Teaspoon of sugar

  • 2 sticks of almost frozen unsalted butter (sliced into small pieces)

1. To make the dough for the pie crust, mix 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon each salt and sugar in a medium-size bowl. Cut 2 sticks chilled unsalted butter into pieces. With a pastry blender, cut in butter, working until mixture resembles coarse meal.

(use 1/2 cup of Flour in case pie crust begins to stick)

2. Add 4 tablespoons ice water; work with hands until dough comes together. If dough is still crumbly, add more ice water a tablespoon at a time (up to 4 more tablespoons). Do not overwork.

3.To form the pie shell, roll the dough on a floured surface into a 14-inch round. Wrap around rolling pin and carefully unroll over a 9-inch pie plate.

4.Use Butter to grease pie pan. Fit gently into bottom and side of pie pan. Use kitchen shears or butter knife to trim dough to a 1-inch overhang; fold under, and seal to form a rim.

5. Crimp rim with fingertips and knuckles or use a fork.

Serve with Ice cream/whipped topping

*Put remaining dough in plastic wrap and freeze for another time.
